The Department of Emergency Medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in Newark is actively recruiting talented, full-time emergency physicians with a focus in medical education and simulation as we expand our educational initiatives and faculty.
Qualified Candidates Should Have One or More of the Following
Must be Board Certified/Eligible in Emergency Medicine (ABEM/AOBEM), and
At least two years of prior Core Faculty experience in an Emergency Medicine Residency, and/or
Completion of a Medical Education or Simulation Fellowship, and/or
An advanced degree in Medical Education or equivalent
About the Department
Our department is home to an enthusiastic and diverse group of academic emergency physicians who are committed to education, scholarship, research, community engagement, and outstanding clinical care. We host the only four-year emergency medicine residency program in the state as well as several fellowship programs. The department is closely integrated with the medical school and closely supports its educational mission.
Clinical services are provided at University Hospital in Newark, NJ, a busy Level I Trauma Center, STEMI Center, and Comprehensive Stroke Center, with 106k annual ED visits and a 30-bed ED Observation Unit. There is a co-located Pediatric ED, staffed significantly by board-certified pediatric emergency physicians. The hospital, which is the only public hospital in the state, cares for the population of Newark as well as its surrounding suburban communities. The ED is undergoing a significant renovation and expansion with Phase 1 opening in December 2024 and Phase 2 on schedule for June 2025.
Newark, a diverse city and the largest in New Jersey, has undergone substantial rejuvenation. It has world-renowned international cuisine, a burgeoning arts scene, a large sports arena, is a tech sector hub for the northeast corridor, and is minutes away from New York City by rail or car, with an easily accessible international airport.
