Department of Emergency Medicine
Academic Emergency Medicine Faculty Position

The Department of Emergency Medicine at BMC/BUSM is seeking Academic Emergency Medicine Faculty. The Department has over 30 faculty who practice in one of the busiest emergency departments in the country and teach in one of the most prestigious residency programs. We are looking to grow our current divisions in EMS, Ultrasound, Medical Education, and Global Health and excited to open a Center focused on Health Equity and Population Health that aligns with the BMC Health System to meet the needs of our patients and communities. The BMC EM residency program is a 4-year training program based in an urban, academic, Level-1 trauma center in the heart of Boston. It is the first program in the city and one of the oldest in the Northeast. BMC has a dedicated pediatric ED, a close training relationship with Boston Children's Hospital and a fellowship in Pediatric EM. Currently, the Department also offers fellowships in EMS, ultrasound, global health with several new fellowships being developed with a health equity and population health focus. We have an active research division with a particular focus on health equity, public health, trauma and violence, infectious diseases, substance use disorders, medical education, clinical operations, ultrasound, and EMS.

The hospital is the primary teaching affiliate for Boston University School of Medicine and medical students do their clinical rotations in the ED. BMC received more than $116 million sponsored research funding and $320 million across the BU medical school campus. BUSM is ranked 30th Among Research Medical Schools and 41st Best in Primary Care in US News & World, and 33rd Best University for Medicine (worldwide) in Times Higher Education.



Requirements

Minimum requirements: Completion of an ACGME-approved Emergency Medicine residency; ABEM certified or eligible; meet requirements for and obtain Massachusetts Medical Licensure and clinical privileges in Emergency Medicine at Boston Medical Center. The successful candidate must qualify for a full-time academic faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Boston University School of Medicine.

Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree or fellowship training in an area of expertise. Leadership experience in national organizations.

Assistant Professor requirements: A local/regional and emerging national reputation with prior record of academic & scholarly productivity in area of expertise. National organization involvement is preferred.

Associate Professor requirements: A national reputation with a prior record of successful scholarly activity in area of expertise, demonstrated mentorship of trainees/junior faculty, and ability to create and lead an independent unit/team. Extramural grant funding and leadership in national organization is preferred.
