Department of Emergency Medicine

The Department of Emergency Medicine at Boston Medical Center (BMC)/Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) is seeking applications for Faculty positions at the rank of Assistant, Associate and Full Professor.  Candidates contribute significantly to the patient care, community engagement, academic, and education missions of the department.  They will care for patients and supervise medical students, PA students, Physician Assistants and residents at Boston Medical Center.

We are recruiting candidates to join a diverse faculty.  All areas of scholarship are welcome.  In addition, there are department-level leadership opportunities in the following areas:  Assistant Clerkship Director (Medical Students and PA Students), Associate Program Director (Residency), Associate Medical Director (Adult Emergency Department), and Vice Chair for Health Equity and Population Health Research.

The Department of Emergency Medicine at BMC/BUSM has over 30 faculty who practice in one of the busiest emergency departments in the country and teach in one of the most prestigious residency programs. The BMC EM residency program is a 4-year training program based in an urban, academic, Level-1 trauma center in the heart of Boston. It is the first program in the city and one of the oldest in the Northeast. BMC has a dedicated pediatric ED and a fellowship in Pediatric EM. We have an active research division with expertise in health equity, public health, trauma and violence, infectious diseases, substance use disorders, medical education, clinical operations, ultrasound, and EMS.

As the largest and busiest provider of trauma and emergency services in New England, the ED serves more than 130,000 patients annually. BMC is a not-for-profit, 514-bed, academic medical center that provides a comprehensive range of services in more than 70 areas of medical specialties and subspecialties with more than 26,000 admissions and one million outpatient visits a year. With 800 physicians and advanced practice providers and 750 residents, BMC attracts an extraordinary community of health care providers devoted to the proposition that every person deserves the best health care and EM plays a critical role providing an essential service to the community. The BMC HealthNet Plan covers 420,000 patient lives focused on low-income populations and through all of these efforts, BMC has become a national model of care for all. The hospital is the primary teaching affiliate for Boston University School of Medicine and medical students do their clinical rotations in the ED. BMC received more than $116 million sponsored research funding and $320 million across the BU medical school campus. BUSM is ranked 30th Among Research Medical Schools and 41st Best in Primary Care in US News & World, and 33rd Best University for Medicine (worldwide) in Times Higher Education.

Minimum requirements: Completion of an ACGME-approved Emergency Medicine residency; ABEM certified or eligible; meet requirements for and obtain Massachusetts Medical Licensure and clinical privileges in Emergency Medicine at Boston Medical Center. Administrative and leadership experience in academic emergency medicine. The successful candidate must qualify for a full-time academic faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Boston University School of Medicine.

Preferred Qualifications: Completion of a fellowship and/or significant scholarly and leadership experience in the area of interest.
