The Department of Emergency Medicine at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons is seeking
a highly qualified leader to take on the role of Assistant Director of Quality and Patient Safety (QPS) for the emergency
department at NewYork-Presbyterian (NYP) Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC). The NYP-CUIMC
Department of Emergency Medicine serves approximately 275,000 patients annually across four emergency
departments and the virtual urgent care platform.
The Assistant Director of QPS will report to the Director of Quality and Patient Safety and the Vice Chair of Quality &
Patient Safety. The individual will play a central role in advancing departmental quality, safety, and performance
improvement initiatives, while serving as a key liaison across QPS, operational, and educational domains.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
- Analyzing safety events and conducting case reviews using a systems-based framework
- Partnering with ED and hospital leadership to design and implement performance improvement initiatives
- Leading quality and patient safety educational initiatives
- Collaborating closely with ED operations and nursing leadership to align quality and operational priorities
Successful applicants must possess an MD or DO, have completed an emergency medicine residency, and have current
board certification in Emergency Medicine. Fellowship training, advanced degrees, or prior experience in healthcare
administration are preferred but not required. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and
communication skills to work collaboratively across the organization. Columbia University Irving Medical Center offers
competitive salaries and benefits commensurate with qualifications.
Salary range: $319,884 - $424,812.
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, shift assignment and training. The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
