For over 150 years, we have served the people of Boston with top doctors, nurses, and staff dedicated to fulfilling our mission of providing accessible care for everyone. At Boston Medical Center, we bring our mix of innovative care, cutting-edge research, and inclusive programs to achieving this mission, at both our 514-bed hospital and in the communities where our patients live.

At BMC, we believe that everyone has the right to health and wellness. We'll always be here for you when you're sick – but we want to help you stay healthy too, and we know that staying healthy involves a lot more than occasional trips to the hospital. As part of BMC's commitment to making a healthier Boston, we have developed a number of programs and services that help address some of the root causes of medical issues – like economic mobility, housing, food, and transportation – with the goal of improving your health and overall wellbeing.

While we help keep you healthy today, BMC is also helping build the future of health and medicine. In 2022, BMC was the 18th largest recipient of funding from the National Institutes of Health among independent U.S. hospitals and received over $304 million in sponsored research funding. Our world-renowned researchers currently oversee 661 research projects, including both laboratory-based research and clinical research programs in areas such as substance use disorder, violence intervention, infectious disease, geriatrics, and hematology/oncology.

As the principal teaching affiliate of Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, BMC is devoted to training future generations of health care professionals. BMC operates 61 residency training programs with 729 resident and fellowship positions.
