Stanford Department of Emergency Medicine

Our dedicated team provides acute and critical care for more than 75,000 visits a year at the Marc and Laura Andreessen Emergency Department, a designated Level I Adult & Pediatric Trauma Center. We have twice earned the prestigious Lantern Award from the Emergency Nurses Association in recognition of exceptional practice and innovation in leadership, education, advocacy, and research.

Our academic faculty and fellows are engaged in active research to develop leading-edge treatments, producing more than 50 peer-reviewed publications in the last year alone. Stanford provides opportunities for professionals to collaborate with renowned experts across the university, throughout the region, and around the globe. Our faculty specialties include Biosecurity; Critical Care; Emergency Medical Services; International Medicine; Medical Humanities; Pediatric Emergency Medicine; Simulation; Social and Population Health; Ultrasound; and Wilderness Medicine.

We have a proven record of promoting best practices in physician wellness, and recently created one of the first fellowships in emergency medicine focused on wellness. We actively work to create a team reflective of the community and the world we serve, ensuring inclusion and representation of all individuals. We are also dedicated to education and developing tomorrow's leaders in emergency medicine, offering a four-year residency program that includes unique training in diverse clinical settings.
